Flight Service (FSS)
The FAA Flight Service system that provides weather briefings, flight plan filing and services, and NOTAM information to pilots by phone, radio, or online tools. Pilots may also self-brief with approved sources; Flight Service remains available in a consultative role.

- Flight VisibilityThe average forward horizontal distance, from the cockpit of an aircraft in flight, at which prominent unlighted objects may be seen and identified by day and prominent lighted objects by night. Flight visibility is a core field in PIREPs and a key element of VFR weather minimums.
- FOI (Fundamentals of Instruction)The body of knowledge covering the learning process, teaching methods, assessment techniques, and human behavior that flight instructor candidates must master. The FOI written test is required for all initial CFI applicants.
- Full-Stop LandingA landing in which the aircraft comes to a complete stop on the runway before taxiing clear or taking off again. Night passenger currency (14 CFR 61.57(b)), private pilot night training (10 full-stop landings under 61.109), and the solo towered-airport landing requirement specifically call for full-stop landings rather than touch-and-goes.
- G-AIRMETA graphical AIRMET product that depicts en route weather hazards such as turbulence, icing, mountain obscuration, and IFR conditions. Modern preflight briefings commonly present G-AIRMETs alongside SIGMETs and convective SIGMETs when building a route weather picture.
