Flaps

Hinged surfaces on the trailing edge of the wing that increase both lift and drag when extended. Flaps allow the aircraft to fly at slower speeds during approach and landing, and enable shorter takeoff rolls. Common types include plain, split, slotted, and Fowler flaps.
